Sonnet 15

  • Success will come to those who bide and wait,
  • Good things happen to good people they say.
  • We're all destined for predetermined fate,
  • Foretold by baiting dreams that stay the day.
  • One year and change to find this great fortune,
  • My wallet feels pressure but no more pain.
  • Three years and change to mend a thankless boon,
  • And still too poor to pine a heart's disdain.
  • I often think of what makes my eyes smile,
  • And how it swayed unto this balmy bay.
  • Though I've sailed far to find this treasure isle,
  • The waves I made have washed my dreams away.
  • How much more of myself can I apply,
  • Til I'm left with a heart unbeat and dry.

Notes

Since my last entry, I've moved to San Francisco and started a new job. And with that I've gone through all the relocation woes and worries, offset by this new financial security that has unburdened much of what was unsettling me before I got the job. I wrote this fairly quickly the first chance to relax and marinate after the move. And yes, I was at a Starbucks, a 24 hour one at that. My first. Premise of the piece is that money doesn't bring you happiness, or at least I'm still trying to figure that out.

I got in a good rhythm while writing this piece that I could attribute to listening to lots of RJD2 while commuting to work on the BART. I'm extremely happy with how this flows, though the 2nd stanza is a little awkward sometimes that I read it. It's an honest piece though, which is what I'm striving for overall in my writing. No obscure unnecessary symbols or baseless notions that sound dandy but don't mean shit (at least to my life). And theres an obvious reference to San Francisco in here. THANK YOU DOT-COM-ALMOST-BOOM!
